In the past few days I have noticed the leaves turning colors, Autumn flowers showing their blossoms, days becoming slightly shorter and a crispness beginning to capture the air. I have always found these things rather beautiful. In this particular year, with COVID-19, I feel that many have become more sensitive to the splendors of this time.

The silver lings for some have been extended shared time with families, cleaner closets, magnificent gardens and learning to bake bread with limited supplies of flour. Some have found this a very challenging time filled with loneliness, anxiety and fear. There is no easy or quick fix to the COVID-19 experience, however there have been many positive outcomes and planning efforts.

Each of us have had more time to think, envision and plan for our futures. Many have updated their wills, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Proxies. Others have reviewed their Life, Disability and Long-Term Care Policies. Some have examined more carefully their Health and Dental insurance coverages. And, as we approach the Fall, it is a great time to get ready to examine your comprehensive Medicare strategy.

The annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period begins on October 15 and runs through December 7. Any changes made during open enrollment are effective as of January 1, 2021. It is a time to explore how your needs, overall health and prescriptions have changed. Regardless of whether you are becoming new to Medicare or have had a well-designed Medicare strategy in place for a while, now is the time to make adjustments.  Why wait to begin examining the best suited and most appropriate strategies for you in 2021? There is no reason to put off these important conversations.

We hope and are confident that the COVID-19 virus will be effectively attacked by the best scientists in the world. We hope that the election will be over soon, so we can stop with what feels like the endless negative attack ads. And, we are hopeful that peaceful pathways will be followed to reach a time when justice prevails for all.
